JOB OBJECTIVE: Network Technician or Product Support Analyst

WORK HISTORY:

1998 - Present Webworker/Student/House-husband Taking care of house and kids so wife can pursue career, but also keeping up with web technology (eg helping father with his web business), experimenting with web ideas, studying XML, XSL, PHP (server-side html programming), and REBOL (internet messaging scripting language). I have started working on the side for PC and wired and wireless network clients; also see sample client web page.

1994 - 1998 LAN Administrator and Sr. Technical Staff for CMR Publishing, Inc. Responsible for all technical duties at CMR, including installation and administration of Win NT Server, NT 4.0 Workstation, Win 3.1/95/98 workstations, internet connectivity, internal applications support, and software quality assurance and technical support for CMR's line of project management software.

1987 - 1994 Sr. Product Support Analyst and Jr. Tech Writer for Time Line project management software, Symantec Corp, Novato, CA. Supported customers and department: designed, implemented and maintained bug/incident tracking databases; set up and maintained BBS and multi-user fax server; wrote support documents, including app notes, readme files, Windows hypertext (see converted .HLP file); trained new Symantec tech support group when they consolidated and moved support groups to Oregon. As Jr. Tech Writer for my final three months, I wrote part of the Time Line V6 user manual.

1986 - 1987 Quality Systems Specialist for Florida Power & Light (FP&L). Produced technical graphics and charts with PCs and mainframe; trained others on use of Lotus, dBase, Freelance, Diagram Master, and advanced DOS. My department was responsible for FP&L earning the only Deming Prize ever received by a company in America at the time.

1985 - 1986 Owner/Developer ADCOMS Menu (consulting service), Santa Clara. Developed compressed PC-based toll call costing database for EPROMs; customized BBS software in Pascal.

1983 - 1985 Applications Engineer for Data I/O Corp, Santa Clara. Repaired, then provided customer support for PROM programmers. Supported customers using ABEL (programmable logic design software); some assembly level programming.

1983 - 1983 Production Test Technician for ESL, Sunnyvale. Quickly learned HP ATE and Network Analyzer and wrote Standard Operating Procedures for Engineers. Little challenge (my reason for leaving) troubleshooting, and documenting specs for military RF equipment.

1982 - 1983 RF Technician for Broadband Engineering, Jupiter, FL. Repaired several types of wideband RF amps and cable TV equipment.

1977 - 1982 Electronic Warfare Systems Technician for US Air Force. 49 months shop level (and above average) experience on troubleshooting and repairing microwave receivers, transmitters, microprocessors, and sophisticated test equipment. Promoted to rank of E-5 ahead of my peers.

1974 - 1976 Computer Programmer for Mini-Computer Services, Florida. Self-taught assembly language programming (in 2 weeks) and subsequently hired. Wrote and modified Payroll and A/R software.


EDUCATION: Berkeley Extension classes in data communications; six months (US Air Force) electronics school; two months concentrating on radar receiver, transmitter, and microprocessor theory at Northrop Defense Systems Division; 2-day course in NT Server 3.5 maintenance; various Ziff-Davis University classes for Continuing Education Units.

AFFILIATIONS: Society for Technical Communication, North Bay Chapter 1994 - 1998; Rohnert Park Girls Under-14 soccer coach for 2000; assistant soccer coach for U12 Girls and U10 Girls teams in 1999; frequent contributor to O'Donnell On Computers radio show via chat (KSFO 560); official editor for DMOZ Open Directory (internet search database).

PERSONAL: Married; daughters, ages 12 (Jeana) & 14 (Kay). I love jazz and classical music, wine, and travel to Japan. Have home office with dsl, networked Mac, PCs, laptop, 1200 dpi laser, wireless net with neighbor, faxmodem, and standalone fax.
